Under 14 Match Reports  w/e 13th April 2014.

South Championship ‘C’ Quarter Final.

Our under 14 team played St Patrick’s in the quarter final of the South Championship in a wet and windy Cloneen on Thursday 11th April.Despite the poor conditions we played some very good football all over the pitch. Kieran Quirke made some fine saves in goals and David Bourke and Jake Fahey were solid in defence.

In the half back line, Sean Hackett, Jack Holohan 0-1 & Michael Cleary were in fine form. Brian Quirke & Gavin Byrne played well at midfield, moving the ball at pace into the forwards. Brian scored 1-1, with Gavin scoring an excellent point following a penetrating run through the St Pat’s defence.

In the forwards, Sean Cotter had excellent tally of 1-1 and Darragh Murphy and Jack Phelan both scored well taken goals. Aidan O’ Sullivan, James O’Donnell and Joey Devoy gave good displays of football.

However, we didn’t have it all our own way as St Patrick’s, who have a number of fine footballers  made a strong come-back in the second half, having trailed 3-1 to 1-2 at the interval. St Pat’s got two goals in this period, so we had to dig deep throughout  but our defence stood up very well overall with Michael Cleary, in particular, giving a ‘man of the match’ performance.

This was an excellent display of football by both teams, and at the final whistle Moyle Rovers were deserving winners on a score line of 4-4 to 3-3.

Under 14 Feile na nOg Hurling (South Quarter Final)

We travelled to Carrick on Suir on Saturday 12th to play Carrick Swans in the quarter final of the South Feile na nOg.

We played against a strong breeze in the first half but held our own in this period against the physically stronger Swans players. Following a goalmouth scramble Luke Delahunty struck the sliothar to the back of the net. Ben Ownes followed on with a point from a free and Darragh Bolger, having caught a high ball, took an excellent long range point.

In the second half, Carrick Swan upped their game with good displays of individual hurling and took their scores well. Cillian Crowe, Ben Ownes and Conor McGrath, put in a big effort around the middle of the park. Conor also shipped a heavy challenge late in the game but bounced back quickly. Sam Power worked manfully at centre back scoring two points; one from a free and one ‘65’.

We were still in with a shout with five minutes to go, but Carrick finished strongly to win by 3 points.

Final score Moyle Rovers 1-4 Carrick Swan 1-7.
