On Friday 10th April, our U12A team played the County Football Semi Final against Durlas og in Clerihan.

Moyle Rovers were struck a blow before the throw in when two of our stalwarts, Harry Phelan and Ciaran Casey were ruled out due to illness and injury. However, this presented opportunities for others to come to the fore. Moyle Rovers played into a very strong breeze in the first half and after a shaky start, played themselves into the match with a goal and a point by Josh Power and Cian Walsh. However the Durlas Og team were physically strong and used the conditions to their advantage opening a 7 point lead at half time. Aidan Lonergan in goal kept Moyle Rovers in the match with some terrific saves and gave us hope for the second half.

Moyle Rovers started the second half strongly and when Conor Og Ryan blasted a ball to the net half way thru the half, only a single score separated the teams. However a couple of easy misses and unnecessary fouls allowed Durlas Og lift the siege. The match could have gone either way with Moyle Rovers showing their fighting spirit right to the end. Unfortunately it wasn’t to be and a  goal for Durlas Og right at the final whistle decided the tie.  The Moyle Rovers team could be very proud of the effort they put in and we all know this team will contest many more finals in the future.

Team was : Aidan Lonergan, Anthony Phelan, Rian Kiely, Mike McGrath, Seamus O’Brien, Brian McKeown, Daniel Quigley, Brian O’Sullivan, Ross Gavin, Cian Maher, Conor Ryan, Josh Power and Brian O’Dea.

Final score Moyle Rovers 2-05 Durlas Og 3-09
